Our Story

The Academy
Behind the Tide

Dana Point, California.
Lantern District.
34025 Pacific Coast Highway.

Rolling Tide was born from a simple belief: jiu-jitsu changes people. Not just physically — though it does that too. It changes how you think under pressure, how you respond to failure, and how you show up for the people around you.

Coach Nick built Rolling Tide after 15 years on the mat and a career in service that taught him what real discipline actually looks like. The goal wasn't to build the biggest gym in South Orange County. It was to build the best one — the school where every student feels like it was made for them.

Technique First

Size and strength are temporary. Technique compounds. We build it the right way from day one.

Ego-Free Zone

Leave it at the door. Every person on the mat is a student. Every class is a chance to learn.

Community Over Competition

We compete because it makes us better — not because it defines us. What we build here is bigger than any bracket.

Built for Life

We train for longevity. The goal is to be rolling at 70. Every decision we make reflects that.

"I didn't build Rolling Tide to be the biggest gym. I built it to be the one people never want to leave."

Coach Nick found jiu-jitsu during a period in his life when he needed discipline more than anything else. 15 years and a black belt later, he opened Rolling Tide with a clear mandate: build the school he wished had existed for him.

His approach is deliberate. Technique before ego. Fundamentals before flash. A mat culture where a 60-year-old and a 25-year-old can train side by side and both leave better. That's the Rolling Tide standard.

What We Stand For

The Rolling Tide
Standard

01
Technique First

Size and strength are temporary advantages. Technique compounds over years. We drill the fundamentals until they become instinct — because that's what actually works under pressure.

02
Ego-Free Zone

Leave it at the door. Every person on this mat is a student — from white belt to black. Every class is a chance to learn something new. The mat humbles everyone equally.

03
Community Over Competition

Tournaments make us better. But what we build here is bigger than any bracket. The relationships formed on this mat are the real product of Rolling Tide.

04
Built for Life

We train for longevity, not just performance. The goal is to still be rolling at 70. Every decision about how we train, how we warm up, how we teach — reflects that.
