Before You Arrive: Getting Ready
A little preparation goes a long way. First, consider these points:

What to Wear: You don’t need a fancy uniform (called a “gi”) on day one. Most gyms, including ours, will have a loaner gi for you. However, if you don’t wear a gi, comfortable athletic clothes are fine. Think t-shirt and athletic shorts or sweatpants. Avoid anything with zippers or buttons that could scratch.

Hydration: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. You’ll be moving, and staying hydrated is key.

Nails & Hygiene: Trim your fingernails and toenails short. This prevents scratches to yourself and others. Also, make sure you’re clean!

Arrive Early: Try to get to the gym about 15-20 minutes before class starts. This gives you time to sign any waivers. Furthermore, you can change and meet your instructor.

The Mat Rules: There are basic rules on the mat for everyone’s safety and respect. For example, bowing when stepping onto and off the mat is common. Showing respect to your instructors and training partners is also important. Generally, shoes are not allowed on the mats.
During the Class: Learning and Moving
Classes at Rolling Tide Jiu-Jitsu are structured to help you learn and grow. Your first class will focus on fundamentals.
