Kids BJJ
Done Right
Confidence. Discipline. A skill they'll carry for life.
Rolling Tide's kids program builds more than technique. Every class develops focus, resilience, and the kind of confidence that shows up at school, at home, and everywhere in between.
Why Parents Choose Rolling Tide
What Your Kid Actually Gets
Real Confidence
Not the kind that comes from trophies — the kind that comes from knowing you can handle hard things. Kids leave every class a little more sure of themselves.
Focus & Discipline
BJJ demands presence. Kids who train learn to pay attention, follow through, and think under pressure — skills that transfer directly to school and life.
Anti-Bullying
Kids who know how to defend themselves carry themselves differently. BJJ is the most effective anti-bullying tool available — and it teaches de-escalation first.
Physical Fitness
Screen time's best antidote. Kids are moving, sweating, and developing coordination, strength, and body awareness in a way that no other sport quite matches.
Respect & Character
Every class begins and ends with respect. Our coaches are mentors. Kids learn to win with humility and lose with grace — two of the most important lessons in life.
Belt Progression
Kids thrive on clear goals. The belt system gives them a visible path — stripes, promotions, ceremonies — and teaches them that hard work has a reward.
The Path Forward
Belt Progression
Every stripe earned is a milestone worth celebrating. Kids always know exactly where they are and what they're working toward.

For Parents
Questions Answered
Is it safe for my child?
Yes. Kids classes are structured around technique and controlled drilling — not rough sparring. Children under 10 do not engage in live sparring. Our coaches are trained to prioritize safety above everything else, and class sizes are kept small so every child gets individual attention.
What age can my child start?
We welcome kids starting at age 5. At that age, classes focus on body awareness, movement, and fun — the jiu-jitsu comes naturally as coordination develops. We accept students up to age 14 in the kids program.
Does my child need any experience?
None at all. Every child starts at white belt and the curriculum is designed for complete beginners. We've never had a kid who couldn't keep up — we meet every child exactly where they are.
What should my child wear to the first class?
Comfortable athletic clothes — shorts and a t-shirt are fine for the free trial. Once enrolled, kids train in a gi (uniform) which is available for purchase. We'll guide you on the right size and where to get one.
How does the belt system work?
Kids progress through white, yellow, orange, green, and eventually blue belt (at 16+). Each belt is earned through demonstrated technique and character — never just time served. Belt ceremonies are a big deal here. We celebrate every promotion.
What does it cost?
The first class is completely free with no obligation. Monthly membership rates are available after the trial — ask Coach Nick directly at your first visit or contact us and we'll walk you through the options. Sibling discounts are available for families with multiple kids training.
Will this help with bullying?
It's one of the most effective tools available. Kids who train BJJ carry themselves differently — with calm confidence rather than aggression. We teach de-escalation and awareness first, self-defense second. Most parents report a noticeable change in how their child handles conflict within the first few months.
